As I prepare to embark on an exciting journey to Costa Rica to complete a yoga teacher training program, I am happy to share some information with you about restorative yoga; what it is and how it can benefit you.
Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing style of yoga where poses are held for extended periods using props such as bolsters, blocks and blankets. As you hold the shapes that emulate more active poses, you are completely supported as you receive the benefits of the pose, such as opening the lungs, releasing tension or balancing the organs of the body.
When we practice this style of yoga, we are able to let go and enter into a state of deep relaxation and healing. Restorative yoga allows us to get out of the holding patterns that we fall into that cause tension, stress and dis-ease. We often forget that we need to just take the time to relax and develop a deeper relationship with our own selves and our bodies. Restorative yoga is a relaxing way to de-stress, re-energize and find balance. There are many physical benefits to this practice, including disease prevention, headache relief, relief of sciatic pain, reduction of obesity and relief from the symptoms of fibromyalgia and other auto immune disorders, to name a few.
This spring, About Face and Body Laser and Wellness Clinic will offer you the opportunity to practice restorative yoga in our studio. Small groups of five or less will begin to gather for restorative sessions twice a week in the early morning. We hope to welcome you in to our space to set an intention of wellness, flexibility and peace. I will keep you posted as our restorative yoga practice times become available.
